Kim Waugh’s recent run of success appears certain to continue at Wyong’s race meeting on Tuesday. She will saddle up four of her team with Blake Shinn and apprentice Jean Van Overmeire sharing the mounts for the Waugh stable. Shinn has the two plum rides as he will be aboard Oxford Tycoon (race 3, $1.45 favourite with TAB fixed odds) and Mighty Marmalade (race 7, $2.30 fav).
Two-year-old colt Oxford Tycoon resumes in the 1100m Matchmaster-IPD-Haneco 2YO Maiden Plate. He was only beaten a length when third in the Listed Lonhro at Warwick Farm on debut in February.
In his only other start, Oxford Tycoon was again a length from the winner Santos in the Group 2 Skyline on March 3. The colt was never off the bit in a recent Newcastle trial win.
Mighty Marmalade hasn’t raced since March but is very promising and she will be hard to beat in the 1000m Legrand Australia Class 2 Handicap.
Both the filly’s starts have been at Wyong where she has a win and a second. She trialled impressively at Newcastle recently.
Waugh’s remaining two runners Seeingisbelieving (race 1, $4) and So Very Vein (race 5, $21) both have strong claims in their events.
RACE 1 (BRILLIANT LTG-PRYSMIAN MAIDEN, 1350M): Seeingisbelieving has his first start for the Waugh stable and is the one to beat. He hasn’t been far away in his only two starts at Scone and Kembla in March. The Scone race was particularly strong. He trialled impressively at Newcastle recently. Whitsunday has been racing well enough and should run well on her home track. Erudition is capable of sharp improvement.
SELECTIONS: 3 SEEINGISBELEIVING, 6 WHITSUNDAY, 5 ERUDITION
RACE 2 (CLIPSAL BY SCHNEIDER BENCHMARK 69, 1100M): Only five runners and Katgully Red could make it back-to-back wins. He got going late when a narrow winner at Kembla on July 12 and he had no luck on this track two starts back. Miss Faith came from last in the straight when she won running away at Newcastle on July 10. Mr Grumpy has genuine speed and resumes after a recent trial.
SELECTIONS: 4 KATGULLY RED, 5 MISS FAITH, 2 MR GRUMPY
RACE 3 (MATCHMASTER–IPD–HANECO 2YO MAIDEN, 1100M): Oxford Tycoon will be favourite when he resumes on the back of an impressive Newcastle trial win. On debut at Warwick Farm in February, this colt was only beaten a length in the Listed Lonhro. His only other start he was again beaten a length in the Group 2 Skyline. Rectitude was run down late on debut at Newcastle on July 7 and he has a soft draw. Greenskeeper has speed and he has a place chance.
SELECTIONS: 6 OXFORD TYCOON, 7 RECTITUDE, 3 GREENSKEEPER
RACE 4 (OMNI–REPELEC CLASS 1, 1350M): Oakfield Missile only has to bring her Newcastle form to Wyong to test this field. The filly bolted in by 4 lengths in a Newcastle Maiden two starts back and last start she went down by half a length in a strong Class 2 at Newcastle. Clifton County was nailed on the line at Hawkesbury last start and he has been placed twice on this track. Spring Creek Star had no luck in the straight at Newcastle last start and he will go forward.
SELECTIONS: 2 OAKFIELD MISSILE, 1 CLIFTON COUNTY, 5 SPRING CREEK STAR
RACE 5 (L&C/PAK-OMEGA-LEVY AGENCIES 2YO MAIDEN, 1100M): Don’t Doubt Arthur is knocking on the door after a gutsy second at Newcastle first-up from a spell. The filly was caught wide and kept coming in the straight and the winner was a close third at Randwick on Saturday. I’m So Sweet raced ok in three Metropolitan starts earlier this year and she won a recent Rosehill trial. Bandol is on debut after a very easy trial win.
SELECTIONS: 4 DON’T DOUBT ARTHUR, 7 I’M SO SWEET, 3 BANDOL
RACE 6 (CABAC-PSA-GERARD LTG PROV & COUNTRY MAIDEN, 1200M): Magnifica has been placed at Newcastle and Kembla this prep in much stronger company. Manhattan Gambler went okay first-up at Gosford recently and he has a chance. Topweight, Stunned is an honest fellow and has drawn nicely in gate number three.
SELECTIONS: 2 MAGNIFICA, 3 MANHATTAN GAMBLER, 1 STUNNED
RACE 7 (LEGRAND AUSTRALIA CLASS 2, 1000M): Mighty Marmalade resumes after a good recent trial. Her only two starts were on this track earlier this year when an unlucky second followed by an easy win. She can be slow out but has a good turn of foot. Happy Mo led all the way to win on this track last start and she beat a smart Class 1 field. Big Legged Woman resumed with a strong Muswellbrook win on July 6.
SELECTIONS: 3 MIGHTY MARMALADE, 2 HAPPY MO, 4 BIG LEGGED WOMAN
RACE 8 (ELECTRA-SHARKRACK BENCHMARK 67, 1600M): Moondancer has won two of four this prep. After a narrow Newcastle win two starts back he was only beaten 2.8 lengths in a Saturday Metropolitan race on July 7. Jarrett had sound form before a last start failure at Newcastle and he is well placed here. Flagpoles hasn’t raced since her Gosford Maiden win in March but she has a quiet recent trial.
SELECTIONS: 1 MOONDANCER, 2 JARRETT, 5 FLAGPOLES
