Strategic Plan Unveiled Today [27/07/2004]

Racing NSW Chief Executive, Peter V'Landys, has unveiled the Strategic Plan for the NSW Racing Industry.

The Plan - five months in the making - follows countless trips around the State consulting stakeholders and participants in an endeavour to compile a Plan which will revitalise thoroughbred racing in this State.

No less than 12 open meetings were held at various country and provincial racecourses, so as to enable participants to provide input to the Plan.

The venues included Wagga, Dubbo, Ballina, Tamworth, Coffs Harbour, Newcastle, Port Macquarie, Wyong and Queanbeyan.

V'Landys said: "The purpose of those meetings was to hear directly from participants the problems they face, and their suggestions as to how racing can be improved.

"The input we received was invaluable and every piece of information helped mould the Strategic Plan now being released.

"We have been very honest and transparent in this document to highlight what problems exist and how the solutions offered can eradicate these problems."

However, V'Landys added that this is not a Plan set in concrete: "The Plan is really a starting point. It is projected as a dynamic document and we intend to continually make reference to it and form updates.

"It's an action plan and I am confident once we start implementing some of the measures indicated, we will see a better and more vibrant industry."
