Stewards Conclude Inquiry Into Altercations By Licensed Stablehands

Racing NSW Stewards today conducted an inquiry into a complaint lodged by licensed stablehand Mr Gurtej Singh against licensed stablehand Mr Rodney Jones in respect to two altercations that took place at Warwick Farm on Friday, 4 May 2012.

Evidence today was taken from Mr Gurtej Singh, Mr Rodney Jones and Mr Kamaljeet Singh. Further evidence by teleconference was taken from Mr Korrie Butler and a statement from licensed foreperson Mr Daniel Nickson.

Mr Rodney Jones was found guilty of a charge under AR175(q) of improper conduct. The particulars of the improper conduct being that at or around 10:30am on Friday, 4th May 2012 in the vicinity of 21 Manning Street, Mr Jones did physically assault licensed stablehand Mr Gurtej Singh resulting in Mr Singh sustaining facial injuries including lacerations, bruising and abrasions.
Penalty: 9 months disqualification

Mr Rodney Jones pleaded guilty to a further charge under AR175(q) of improper conduct. The particulars of the improper conduct being that at or around 6am on Friday, 4th May 2012 in the vicinity of the Warwick Farm on-course stables of trainer Bjorn Baker, Mr Jones did engage in physical altercation with licensed stablehand Mr Gurtej Singh.
Penalty: 2 months suspension

The Stewards ruled that both penalties be served concurrently this enabling Mr Jones to apply to be relicensed on 17 February 2013.


Mr Gurtej Singh pleaded guilty to a charge of improper conduct under AR175(q). The particulars of the improper conduct being that at or around 6am on Friday, 4th May 2012 in the vicinity of the Warwick Farm on-course stables of trainer Bjorn Baker, Mr Singh did engage in a physical altercation with licensed stablehand Mr Rodney Jones.
Penalty: 2 months suspension

Mr Singh will be eligible to resume stablehand duties on 15 July 2012.

Both parties were advised of their rights of appeal.
