Licensed Trainer Jim Gleeson Suspended For Three Months
Stewards today conducted an inquiry into the Analyst’s finding of the prohibited substance Testosterone in the urine sample taken from Impish Lad prior to it being withdrawn from the Buy Bellerive Yearlings @ Melbourne Maiden plate 1100m at the Scone Race Club on Monday 13th February 2012.
Evidence was taken from Mr J P Gleeson the trainer of Impish Lad, Dr C Suann Racing NSW Senior Official Veterinarian and Dr A Cawley Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory Analyst. Written evidence was also tendered from Mr D Wells, owner of Impish Lad
Mr J P Gleeson pleaded guilty to a charge under AR178 in that he brought Impish Lad to the Scone Race Club’s race meeting on Monday 13th February 2012 for the purpose of engaging in race 2 on that day. Further that prior to Impish Lad being declared a late scratching from that event during the parade to the start of the race a urine sample was taken from it which was found to contain the prohibited substance Testosterone at a level in excess of the threshold provided for geldings in AR 178C(1)(g)(i).
Taking into account all the circumstances of this case Mr Gleeson’s licence to train racehorses was suspended for a period to expire on 1st August 2012 on which day he may apply to be relicensed.
Mr Gleeson was advised of his right of appeal.
